Winter Skincare Routine

For those of us that live in cooler climates during the winter will know how important it is to have a winter skincare regime that differs from your summer one.  My skin is very sensitive, I break out with rashes and hives if I use a product with too much perfume or too many chemicals.  Last winter during a family trip to Montreal I developed the winter version of “allergies” but instead of a runny nose and itchy eyes my entire body was flaring up in red patches and my skin was insanely itchy 24/7.  After going to my doctor, two walk-ins and a dermatologist I was frustrated that there was no special cream, pill or antidote for it, I simply had to ride it out.  As a result, I must have tried every cream on the shelf and figured out quickly what worked best for me.
I’m excited to have teamed up with Shoppers Drug Mart to share with you all an inside look at my winter skincare regime!
Above are some of my favourites.  I do have other products I like to use but these are among
the best/my faves.  I like having two sets of products, one for the day and one for the night.

AVEENO

Remember those lovely winter allergies I was talking about above? Well the only cream that I felt not only soothed and stopped the itching (temporarily) was Aveeno and you guys, I tried them all.  This is a staple in our home now and whenever my skin starts to feel itchy or irritated it’s the only thing I’ll put on my skin. Right now, I use it as my daytime cream it keep my skin feeling soft all day long.
NIVEA

Nivea is a brand that my mother used growing up so I’ve always trusted it.  I like this small tube because it’s perfect for keeping at my desk or in my purse.  While I adore our condo, it is an older building and so the windows tend to leak in cold air from outside making it very dry.  When I’m at my computer all day I can feel my hands getting dryer and dryer by the hour.  As you can see you don’t need a lot of this stuff just a little dab will do the trick! I’m so picky when it comes to hand creams.  I’m not a fan of super oily or liquid ones that make your hands slippery.  I like ones that make them feel soft and smooth without the slimy-ness.  This one is perfect!

NIP+FAB

I was intrigued when I came across these night pads by Nip+Fab, I’m always looking for things that will help my problem areas.  I bought them without knowing much about the brand but immediately liked them.  Then I saw Miss Kylie Jenner became their ambassador and thought okay good sign no?  Because I have highly sensitive skin I’ll only use these 1-2 times a week before I apply my moisturizer or evening mask.
VICHY

I first used Vichy back in middle school after my best friend Georgia introduced me to the brand.  It became my ride or die for years even right through high school.  Their products not only work but they didn’t make my skin flare up (yay!).  I do have a variety of moisturizers I love and this one is one of them.  I like this particular line for my winter evening routine.  It’s thick and I wake up still feeling the residue on my skin.
LA ROCHE-POSAY

I discovered this cream this year and I’ve been loving it so far.  Luckily I haven’t had a relapse and my skin hasn’t flared up this year but I wanted something “heavy duty” for before bed.  This is the perfect cream.  It’s thick and powerful – I usually will put on some old Pj’s after so I don’t ruin my new ones (I use a lot of this stuff!).
In addition to my daytime & nighttime creams I swear by coconut oil.  I keep a big jug in our shower and right before I get out I soak my body in it.  Then I just rinse off with water and pat dry.  I did this all last year when I was trying to fix my winter skin allergies and helped a ton.  Still had to moisturize when I got out but this is a quick and easy way to lock in even more moisture to your skin!

Hope you all enjoyed this post!  I love experimenting and am always trying new products to see which ones suit my skin best.  These brands have been a favourite of mine for a long time and I know they will continue to be.

Lots of love,
Anna
